Guided tours of the museum in Mozart’s birthplace can be booked for school classes and youth groups the whole year round.

Everyone knows Wolfgang Amadé Mozart and his birthplace in Salzburg. But what exactly does the next generation know about Salzburg's most famous son? The museum tours in Mozart’s birthplace invite children and young people of all age ranges to follow in the footsteps of Mozart.

These special tours through Mozart’s birthplace are an opportunity for young visitors to learn more about Mozart's life and impact. Exciting anecdotes, original showpieces, and musical examples are used to help them understand why Mozart has made this city famous throughout the world

The guided tours of the museum in Mozart’s birthplace can be booked by school classes and youth groups the whole year round. In the second Mozart museum, Mozart’s Residence, audio guides in six languages are available to visitors. Guided tours are also available here upon special request.

The tour lasts approximately one hour.

The flat-rate fee of the tour (for a school class or approx. 30 people) is charged in addition to the admission fees.
Guided tours in German: 52.00 €
Guided tours in English, French, Italian, or Spanish: 66.00 €.

Entrance prices for Mozart’s birthplace:
Pupils (6-18 years old): 2.50 €
For every ten pupils, one supervising adult gains free entry.

Combined ticket for Mozart’s birthplace and Mozart’s residence:
Pupils (6-18 years of age): 3.50 €

Alongside a guided tour of Mozart’s birthplace, children and young people can enjoy a musical performance of original compositions by Mozart and his contemporaries, performed on the historic fortepiano dating from the time of Mozart.

A museum visit is not equally exciting for all children - an individual approach is needed to stimulate each child's senses, to answer each child's questions, and to awaken each child's curiosity. Truly unforgettable impressions are only achieved when the young visitors are enthused and captivated in a wide variety of ways. ‘Museum & Live Music’ puts this fact into practice and allows the museum's young visitors to actively discover, experience, and above all hear Mozart.

During their visit to Mozart’s birthplace, the children and young people are given fully comprehensive insight into the life and works of the prodigy from Salzburg. The program complements the standard guided tour of the house with a musical performance on the historic fortepiano. What is so special about this is that students at the Mozarteum University play original compositions by Mozart and his contemporaries, thus familiarizing the children and young people with the typical sound of this instrument. If desired, this can be followed by singing along to Papageno's aria ‘The bird-catcher am I’ or to Mozart's ‘Come lovely May, and make...’.

This service can only be booked together with a guided tour for school classes. The duration of the tour is thus extended by 20 to 30 minutes.

A day in the life of Mozart: independent discovery tours (without a guided tour)

In 1773, the Mozart family moved into the so-called ‘Dance-Master's House’ by what is today the Makartplatz, after they outgrew the house in the Getreidegasse. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart lived here for seven years until his permanent move to Vienna. The house tells of Mozart’s biography and of everyday life during Mozart’s era. Audio guides convey the exciting history of the building, describe Mozart's composition work during his time in Salzburg, and give an impression of his social environment. There is special focus on the women in Mozart's life – especially his sister Nannerl –, his travels throughout Europe, and the popular pastime of ‘Bölzlschießen’, a shooting game with colored discs as targets.

The highlights of such individual discovery tours through the Mozart family residence include the historic fortepiano and the famous family portrait in the ‘Dance-Master's Salon’. An audio-visual display on Mozart's life and his Salzburg surroundings completes the multifaceted tour of the museum.

For every ten pupils, one supervising adult gains free entry.
Every further supervising adult pays 6.00 € per person (combined ticket: 10.00 €)

Groups of up to 30 people do not need to book their visit.

Free film screenings for kindergarten groups and school classes
The Mozart audio and film collection at the Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg is an audio-visual archive with a comprehensive catalogue of audio and film documents on the life and works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The archive has a total of 22,000 audio titles and 2,600 films in its index. Among other things, the collection includes numerous motion pictures, cartoons, documentaries, and operatic productions specially aimed at children and young people.

By arrangement, free big-screen viewings are available for school classes and Kindergarten groups (up to 40 children). The following selection reveals the extent of the archive. In collaboration with kindergarten and school teachers, we make every effort to put together the adequate program for your respective kindergarten groups and school classes.
