MOZART AUDIO- VISUAL COLLECTION

Opened in 1991, the Mozart audio- visual collection is the largest special archive of audio and visual recordings relating to the life and works of Mozart.  The collection accommodates 22,000 sound recordings (the oldest stems from 1889) and 2,800 video productions and it is possible to listen to recordings or view films directly at the archive. More than 100 different interpretations are available for some individual musical works. An additional 16,000 recordings are documented in the collection’s online database. The collection itself includes numerous performances of works, rehearsal excerpts, documentary films, motion pictures, plays and children’s films.

The Audio-visual collection is open to the general public free of charge (however no loans are permitted) and was created for use by scholars, students, Mozart enthusiasts as well as school groups, singers, instrumentalists, directors and conductors.  The large viewing screen may also be used by groups by pre-registration.
