RARE BOOK COLLECTION

The rare book collection of the Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg, preserved in the Bibliotheca Mozartiana, contains various historical sources. The main focus of the collection is music editions from the 18th and 19th centuries, including numerous first edition copies of works by Mozart and other composers as well.  The rare book collection contains a limited number of music manuscripts (they include large portions of the estates of Franz Xaver Mozart and his teacher, Johann Georg Anton Mederitsch), printed libretti as well as literary and music theory texts containing references to Mozart stemming from the 18th and early 19th centuries.  This collection continues to expand through generous gifts and purchases by the Mozarteum Foundation.
