The Beginnings of the Cult of Mozart in Salzburg: The Cathedral Music Society and Mozarteum 1841–80

The “Cathedral Music Society and Mozarteum” was founded in Salzburg in 1841. It was supported, amongst others, by Mozart’s widow Constanze and by their two surviving sons, Franz Xaver Wolfgang and Carl Thomas. Its activities played an important role not only in terms of Salzburg’s musical life but also with regard to the way in which Mozart’s legacy was promoted.

Franz Xaver Wolfgang Mozart: A Composer of “Limited Abilities”

Franz Xaver Wolfgang Mozart was born in Vienna on 26 July 1791 only a few months before the death of his father Wolfgang Amadé Mozart. He received a solid musical training from a very early age and was later active both as a pianist and as a composer.
