Programme
Mitra Kotte performs compositions by Emilie Mayer (1812–1883), Dora Pejačević (1885–1923), Vítězslava Kaprálová (1915–1940), Cécile Chaminade (1857–1944), and Louise Farrenc (1804–1875). Irene Schrattenecker reads texts (in german only) from the works of Sr. Maria Theresia Ledóchowska.
Maria Theresia Ledóchowska (1863–1922) came from Polish-Austrian nobility; she left her privileged life as a lady-in-waiting behind and devoted herself with great determination to combating slavery and human trafficking in Africa. To this end, she successfully engaged as a publicist, publisher, speaker, theater producer, exhibition organizer, museum director, and entrepreneur, as well as the superior of the Maria Sorg religious community, which she founded in 1894 in Bergheim near Salzburg. She was beatified in 1975. The musical piece offers an additional artistic perspective on a time when women began to make their voices heard more strongly in the public sphere.
