260 years ago, Mozart made his debut as an opera composer. When Wolfgang Amadé received the commission for this work, he was only eleven years old. As in every year, the University of Salzburg had scheduled a school production at the end of the academic term. Mozart composed Apollo et Hyacinthus as an interlude to the Latin tragedy Clementia Croesi, which premiered on 13 May 1767 in the Aula of the University of Salzburg.

This rarely performed opera already hints at Mozart’s extraordinary talent and is now presented as a summer night opera for the first time in the hedge theatre of the magnificent Mirabell Garden.
