Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphony No. 8 in F major, Op. 93

This concert centers on a subtle dramaturgy that brings historical roots and contemporary forms of expression into dialogue. The fact that the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra is performing this program is particularly symbolic: Leopold Mozart, father of the world-famous Wolfgang Amadeus, was born in Augsburg, and his “Neue Lambacher Sinfonie” opens the evening as a musical reminder of the city's musical origins. In this work, Leopold reveals himself to be a composer of clear form and vital energy, who at the same time marks the stylistic transition between the Baroque tradition and the emerging Classical period. This is answered by Alexey Shor's Clarinet Concerto No. 2, which combines late Romantic expressiveness with an immediate melodic appeal. Fabrizio Meloni, long-time principal clarinetist of the Orchestra del Teatro alla Scala di Milano, is one of the leading representatives of his field as a soloist. His tonal virtuosity and creative depth make him the ideal interpreter of this concerto, which presents the clarinet as a voice between lyrical singing and brilliant virtuosity. The concert concludes with Beethoven's Symphony No. 8 in F major, Op. 93 – a work that combines classical tradition with playful wit and rhythmic freshness. Under the baton of Domonkos Héja, the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra demonstrates its interpretative range and effectively showcases the connection between historical origins, virtuoso solo performances, and orchestral power.
