Composition commissioned by the Styriarte 2021
dedicated to Michael Hindinger
"Celloversum" takes six cellists on a tour through the ages, from the Renaissance to the present, and focuses on the variety of colours and possibilities of the sonorous instrument: from the mystical-spiritual spheres of Gesualdo to the passionate cantilenas and rhythms of Bizet and Bernstein to Matthias Bartolomey's own compositions with their emphasis on groove, the six cellists demonstrate at times orchestral power and intensity, at others chamber-musical tenderness and intimacy.
