Programme

“Play of the Elements”
The Salzburg Wind Philharmonic’s 2027 Epiphany Concert transports audiences to breathtaking musical landscapes of nature, come rain or shine, sun or storm.
At the start of 2027, the Salzburg Wind Philharmonic, under the baton of its principal conductor Hansjörg Angerer, will guide the audience through magnificent landscapes and wonderful natural regions with its traditional Epiphany Concert - through wind and weather, in bright sunshine as well as under dark, cloudy skies. From the early morning hours through twilight and into the night, this matinee at the Großes Festspielhaus will span an impressive arc of sound. Nature will be experienced through its most diverse sounds, foremost in Beethoven’s “Pastoral” Symphony. The musical journey continues with, for example, Haydn’s Symphony “with the Horn Signal,” Grieg’s “Morning Mood,” Smetana’s “Vltava,” and Sibelius’s “Karelia Suite,” taking the audience through a wide variety of landscapes - whose folk music has been immortalized or whose waters and fields have been transformed into musical compositions. For this year’s Epiphany Concert, the festival has secured violinist Benjamin Schmid as the star soloist, who will perform particularly virtuosic pieces by Wieniawski and Camille Saint-Saëns.
Rounding out the program, in keeping with the turn of the year, is “golden” Viennese light music, including Josef Strauss’s polka “Winterlust” - a lively finale to an extraordinary musical journey through nature.
