Programme

With the concert series FRAUENSTIMMEN, whose concerts have been held regularly since 2010, the Maria-Anna-Mozart-Gesellschaft organises Austria's longest-running concert series dedicated to the music of female composers.

A thousand butterflies

Aftab Darvishi (*1987), Erwin Schulhoff (1894–1942), Augusta Read Thomas (* 1964), Ursula Mamlok (1923–2016), George Gerschwin (1898–1937) u.a.

This programme comprises two very different generations of composers: on the one hand, the innovators of the 1920s who were faced with the difficult task of working through the trauma of the First World War in their music; on the other hand, a generation of female composers of our time who have developed very personal sound languages: Aftab Darvishi likes to draw inspiration from her Iranian roots, while Augusta Read Thomas' Chant is strongly grounded in Western tradition. Ursula Mamlok spans these generations: she grew up in Germany in the 1930s and developed her sound language until the end of her life.
