FRAUENSTIMMEN 2024: SONGS OF CONSOLATION AND GARDEN SONGS

Numerous careers of female composers were severely curtailed during the Nazi era by expulsion, murder and ignorance, culminating in extermination and extinction: the children's song composer and author of books for young people Ilse Weber is one of the most prominent; she went on the Kindertransport from the Theresienstadt concentration camp to the gas chambers in Auschwitz. By researching her oeuvre and rewriting her sketched melodies, a new work has been created. In order to do justice to their significance, the composer Michael Mautner has brought together the motifs from the scores in a composing-arranging manner. Fanny Hensel's garden songs and cello-piano works by Lera Auerbach and Henriette Bosmans - who survived the Nazi era in Holland - complete the program. The highlight is a new composition based on Ingeborg Bachmann's poetry by Elfi Aichinger: "Ich".
