DYNAMIKfest and the prestigious Fondation Gautier Capuçon join together to present a tribute to Maurice Ravel, whose 150th birthday is commemorated this year. The program weaves through masterworks by established composers that all at one time influenced Ravel’s wide cultural heritage and compositional range in vastly different ways. The program culminates with the two contrasting violin sonatas written by Ravel himself: the lyrical, rarely heard Sonate posthume, written in his youth, and the iconic Sonata No. 2, whose bold harmonies and jazz-inflected “Blues” movement capture the modernist spirit of his more mature style.
