Programme
The St. Matthew Passion is one of the most moving works in the history of music. It
condenses human suffering, compassion, and hope into a monumental language of sound
with overwhelming expressive power. Bach composed this work not merely as a retelling
of the story of Christ’s passion, but created a musical drama that deeply moves, captivates,
and raises questions of sin, love, atonement and redemption. Two choirs, two orchestras,
soloists, and an evangelist as narrator intertwine to form a spiritual Gesamtkunstwerk of
rare grandeur — a work that silences and leaves one speechless before its profound depth.
