At the New Year’s Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic, there was once a charming tradition of decorating the stage with flowers from the Italian city of San Remo. Even more enchanting is the way CAMERATA now brings flowers to life through sound at its New Year’s concerts. Musical floral bouquets will blossom, including Mozart’s overture to the opera La finta giardiniera, Tchaikovsky’s Waltz of the Flowers from The Nutcracker, Johann Strauss’ Roses from the South waltz, and the playful Bouquet Quadrille. The musical bouquet also features Lehár’s magnificent waltz Wild Roses and the timeless melody Give Me Roses in Tyrol from Zeller’s operetta The Bird Seller, presented in an instrumental version.
Japanese piano "rising star" Hayato Sumino will perform a movement from the piano concerto Memo Flora by his compatriot Takashi Yoshimatsu. Together with Russian violinist and conductor Alexander Sitkovetsky and the musicians of CAMERATA Salzburg, he will also make Ferdinand Ries’ romantic arrangement of the Irish air The Last Rose of Summer bloom once more.
