Danzas colombianas
Commissioned by the Iberacademy for LatinoMozart 2023

At the age of three, he went almost completely blind after contracting diphtheria: the Spanish composer Joaquín Rodrigo. Through the loss of sight, he found his way to music. The premiere of his Concierto de Aranjuez by the guitar virtuoso Regino Sáinz de la Maza in Barcelona in 1940 became a music-historical event and made him world-famous as a composer overnight. The Adagio in particular, with its wistful, romantic mood, became extremely popular. Surrounding this popular piece is music by Mozart and Arriaga, who is widely regarded as the "Spanish Mozart". The concluding Colombian dances are composed especially for LatinoMozart.
