The Queensland Youth Symphony (QYS) is a world-class youth orchestra based in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The 90 musicians range in age from 12 to 25, with an average age of 19, and the orchestra has consistently earned high praise from music critics for the high quality of its performances.
The current three-week tour to Singapore, Austria and Germany from 26 November to 17 December is the orchestra's 14th international tour since 1972 and includes concerts at the Esplanade Concert Hall in Singapore, the Grosser Saal of the Vienna Musikverein, the Grosser Saal Mozarteum in Salzburg, the Grosser Saal of the HfM Würzburg, the Konzerthaus Bamberg, the Konzerthaus der UdK in Berlin, the Glocke in Bremen and the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg.
QYS is the premier orchestra of the Queensland Youth Orchestras (QYO). QYO has 540 musicians in 8 ensembles including 3 symphony orchestras, 2 wind orchestras, 2 string orchestras and a big band. The musicians rehearse weekly in QYO's home, the Old Museum, a beautiful listed building, and give over 60 concerts each year. QYO regularly commissions new works by young and emerging composers for each of its ensembles to rehearse and perform.
Entry to QYS and all QYO ensembles is through an annual audition, and current members:in must reapply each year for a position alongside new applicants:in.
