César Franck: Sonata in A major for Violin and Piano

An extraordinary event awaits the audience this evening in the Great Hall of the Mozarteum: Mikhail Pletnev, world-renowned pianist, conductor, and composer, rarely performs in Salzburg and brings his incomparable virtuosity and artistic depth directly to the stage. At his side is the young violinist Marc Bouchkov, already an internationally acclaimed musician whose unique sense of style and experience as a chamber musician shapes the solo part with extraordinary precision and expressiveness. The centerpiece of the evening is the Salzburg premiere of Alexey Shor's violin and piano sonata, written in close collaboration with Pletnev – a work that emerged from an artistic partnership reminiscent of historical models such as Brahms and Joseph Joachim or Tchaikovsky and Joseph Kotek. The program is complemented by sonatas by Franz Schubert, Edvard Grieg, and César Franck – significant masterpieces of violin and piano literature, each unfolding its own sound world and underscoring the timeless quality of this repertoire. This concert offers a rare opportunity to experience Pletnev's legendary presence alongside the youthful genius of Bouchkov and to directly experience the connection between historical tradition, virtuosity, and contemporary composition.
