Prof. Jakob Pietschnig (University of Vienna) in conversation with Linus Klumpner, Director of the Mozart Museums.

The Mozart myth

Mozart's music is not only incredibly beautiful, but amazing effects have been attributed to it, especially in the last 50 years. For example, listening to Mozart's music is supposed to make children smarter in the long term, alleviate epilepsy symptoms or even increase the efficiency of sewage treatment plants by stimulating the microorganisms that act in them. But where do these theories, which seem spectacular to the point of absurdity, come from and what is actually behind them? In this lecture you will learn the answers.

The panel discussion is part of the offer for the Salzburg Museum Weekend. On the occasion of International Museum Day, the Salzburg Museum Weekend will take place for the eighth time in 2023. Under the motto "Sustainability and Wellbeing", a total of 61 museums and exhibitions will offer a varied special programme with free admission from 10 am to 5 pm.
