Ludwig van Beethoven
Symphony No. 6 in F major Op. 68 "Pastoral"
"It is the music that matters," says Elisabeth Leonskaja, who always steps behind the composition and creates greatness solely through the music itself. Born in Soviet-ruled Georgia and trained in the legendary Russian piano school, Leonskaja used a concert visa in 1978 to emigrate to Vienna, where she has since lived and built her career on the world’s major stages. Now, the "Grande Dame" of the piano joins the CAMERATA to bring Beethoven's combative C minor Concerto to life with her legato playing and expressive power. This first symphonic piano concerto in music history is framed by two of the most beautiful nature-inspired compositions. The Russian conductor Maxim Emelyanychev, who has transitioned from early music to leading major orchestras, conducts CAMERATA in Mendelssohn's Scottish impression "The Hebrides" Overture and Beethoven's "Pastoral Symphony," subtitled "Recollections of Country Life."
