Symphony No. 38 in D major KV 504 "Prague"
Just days before the official start of spring, CAMERATA, under the direction of Czech conductor Václav Luks, embarks on a musical journey to Prague, exploring its flourishing music scene at the turn of the 18th to the 19th century. Though often struggling for recognition in Vienna, Mozart found some of his happiest moments as a musician in Prague during his three visits. There, he encountered an exceptional orchestra, which performed his highly complex, three-movement Symphony in D major KV 504 with great success. Music chronicler F. X. Niemetschek noted that the symphony had "such a fiery drive." The Czechs themselves also had outstanding composers, such as J. V. Voříšek, born in the year of Mozart's death and, like him, taken too soon in his mid-thirties. His only symphony, brimming with fiery energy and colorful instrumentation, reveals a "Bohemian Beethoven." CAMERATA favorite François Leleux will also perform the romantic and charming Oboe Concertino by Prague composer J. W. Kalliwoda, which begins with a resounding horn introduction.
Concert introduction with Rainer Lepuschitz 30 minutes before the concert in the Wiener Saal (in German).
