Programme
The Holocaust silenced millions of voices and destroyed an entire generation of musical creativity. The rediscovery of lost works has long focused on male composers – but what about the women? Female composers suffered under the Third Reich just as much as their male colleagues: some were murdered, others forced into exile, and some were able to build new lives. Those who remained in the occupied countries often used music as an act of survival and resistance. Their works tell of courage, loss and unbroken hope. After intensive research, mezzo-soprano Katharine Goeldner, flutist Amy Morris and pianist Carol Anderson have put together a moving and challenging programme that brings the music of these composers back to life.
