Programme
Flute virtuoso Marcello Gatti presents a programme rooted in Salzburg’s rich musical heritage. During the Romantic era, the transverse flute evolved from the brilliant solo instrument of the Classical period into a voice of lyrical intensity, poetic colour and expressive depth. Carl Maria von Weber was among the pioneers of this new musical language. As a young man, he studied with Michael Haydn in Salzburg, and at the age of sixteen named Wolfgang Amadé Mozart, Johann Michael Haydn and Luigi Gatti as his main artistic influences. Salzburg also brought Weber lifelong friendships, including the flautist Thaddäus Susan, who inspired his passion for the flute as a solo instrument.
