Performers

  • Gerlinde Sämann (Soprano)
  • Claude Weber (piano)

Programme

Gerlinde Sämann (soprano) and Claude Weber (piano) perform songs by Fanny Hensel-Mendelssohn (1805-1847), Clara Schumann-Wieck (1819-1896), Helen Buchholtz (1877-1953), Amy Beach (1867-1944),
Maria Bach (1896-1978), Rebecca Clarke (1886-1979), Albena Petrovic-Vratchanska (*1965) and Catherine Kontz (*1976)

In addition to works by well-known female composers such as Fanny Hensel-Mendelssohn and Clara Schumann, this concert will also feature less frequently performed songs by Maria Bach (Vienna), Amy Beach (New York) and Helen Buchholtz (Luxembourg), among others.
Some of these women were celebrated for their music during their lifetime, others composed more quietly, but what they all have in common is that their works fell into oblivion and
unfortunately still too rarely heard. The compositions by Catherine Kontz (London) and Albena Petrovic-Vratchanska (Luxembourg) both refer to songs by Helen Buchholtz and build a bridge to the present day with their forward-looking musical language.
