Programme

Since 1791, probably no other work by Wolfgang Amadé Mozart has caused as much of a sensation as the Serenade in C for two violins and bass K. 648, which was heard for the first time in two centuries at the presentation of the Köchel-Verzeichnis on September 19, 2024. The Salzburg premiere triggered a boom in performances, recordings and sheet music editions, reaching people of all ages all over the world. Rolando Villazón has invited the musicians from the very beginning to present the work to the Mozart Week audience. In conversation with Ulrich Leisinger, director of research of the International Mozarteum Foundation and discoverer of the piece, it becomes clear that the rediscovery was no mere coincidence. Rather, the systematic recording and evaluation of all Mozart sources for the new edition of the Köchel Catalog has raised our knowledge of Mozart's work and influence to a whole new level, which is also freely accessible all over the world for the first time thanks to an online version of Köchel Catalog.
