Why is there a Bach Society in the Mozart city of Salzburg? This is due to the work of Albert Hartinger. Our history is a history of the healing power of music: nothing can overcome the confessional antagonisms of Catholicism and Protestantism better than music, as it is a universal language of the soul. For the couple Christiane Eberhardine and Friedrich August von Sachsen, who were estranged along confessional lines, heavenly funeral music was written by Bach and Zelenka respectively. The music united what had been separated. In the same way, it united both hearts - Mozart and Bach, Catholicism and Protestantism - in the breast of our founder.
