They were successful businesswomen, bandleaders, composers, directors of large and small ensembles who toured throughout Europe. This concert presents the
great female waltz composers who conquered the world with their music from Vienna.
They were in contact with the Strauss family, dedicated works to each other and were invited to compose and perform for their Majesties. They played at the World Exhibition, at the grand balls and imperial festivals. They were not inferior to the men of their time in terms of prestige and business acumen, and certainly not in the quality of their compositions.
However, the explorer's view of the hidden figures of popular music urgently calls for an extension into the present. It is astonishing and yet unsurprising how many female contemporaries in Austria discovered the waltz as a contemporary form of composition.
