For more than ten years Rolando Villazón has been adding to the worldwide lustre of the International Mozarteum Foundation. In the light of an outstanding 2026 Mozart Week Festival he has now been invited to remain the Foundation’s artistic director until 2031. He has been the intendant of the Mozart Week Festival since 2019 and in the summer of 2021 he assumed full responsibility for the artistic running of the Mozarteum Foundation. In 2022 his contract was initially extended to 2028 and the Mozarteum Foundation’s board of directors has now decided that Rolando Villazón will continue to be in charge of the Foundation’s artistic destiny until 2031.

The first highlights of the 2027 Mozart Week Festival

The next Mozart Week Festival will have an outstanding programme featuring some of the world’s leading artists. A staged production of Mozart’s opera buffa Così fan tutte completes Rolando Villazón’s Da Ponte cycle after Le nozze di Figaro in 2020 and Don Giovanni in 2023. The conductor will be the Mozart specialist Ivor Bolton at the head of the renowned Salzburg Camerata, which celebrates its seventy-fifth anniversary in 2027. The handpicked team of soloists includes Thomas Hampson, Kathryn Lewek, Patricia Nolz and Kate Lindsey. In keeping with tradition, the Vienna Philharmonic will be appearing on three occasions at the 2027 Mozart Week Festival. Their concerts include one with Adam Fischer and Igor Levit and another with Christian Thielemann conducting Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, a performance that marks the bicentenary of Beethoven’s death. The world-famous Viennese orchestra will additionally be heard under Philippe Jordan, with the pianist Víkingur Ólafsson making his Mozart Week Festival debut.
