Grand opening of the new building

The ‘new’ Mozarteum was opened from October 22 to 26, 2022 with a grand opening ceremony, four days of festival operations with the Mozart+Fest and an open house. Around 5,000 visitors mainly from Austria, Germany and Switzerland celebrated the reopening of the Great Hall after renovation and the inauguration of the new foyer building.

The stars of classical music were in attendance at the opening weekend: violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra with pianist Leif Ove Andsnes, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe with François Leleux on the podium and Lisa Batiashvili on the violin, and the Ensemble L’Arpeggiata conducted by Christina Pluhar. Especially the two Latin American orchestra formations, the Orquesta Iberacademy Medellín from Colombia and the Orquesta del Lyceum de La Habana under the direction of José Antonio Méndez Padrón and with horn player Sarah Willis almost swept the audience off their feet. The Cubans also caused a stir in the city, with a flash mob on Mozartplatz and a spontaneous concert in Europark.
